My First Crush

Um... the thought of my first crush, takes me back to my school days when there was mainly Doordarshan as the main source of visual entertainment. First the black and white ubiquitous Dyanora TV and then the ONIDA (neighbours envy , owner's pride) colour TV.

There were lots of interesting serials like Mahabharat, Hum Log .... which were aired on TV which people (young and old ) followed with earnest. As a young girl, what caught my attention was the serial "Fauji" (Soldier) where a young chap names Shah Rukh Khan with his dimpled smiles made the serial worth following. This serial was made by Colonel Raj Kapoor who is said to have put Shah Rukh on the path of stardom. Shah Rukh was sweet and humble and the boy next door. Like many girls at my age, I feel in love with this chap and wanted to not miss the serial come rain or shine.

I would finish my studying early every Wednesday even when there were exams and sit eagerly and watch the serial takes it twists and turns. It was an engrossing serial and kept me on my toes till the end came for the day and had to wait another week to follow it.

I realized after a while that I was following Shah Rukh Khan more than the serial story. This I would term it as my first crush. As you know, Shah Rukh went on to become a mega star in Bollywood and me into Engineering and IT work. However , every time the thought of marriage came, I would think whether I would get a person like Shah Rukh as my husband when I grew up.
