“You have always misunderstood me, Jai… And you proved me a murderer. You have taken your revenge.”

Pinky was crying while going towards her new home, The Central Jail in Mumbai. She was shattered into pieces not because of her future under the bars but because, her ex-lover JK, the great Justice King. Jai Kishen Saighal had ideally won the case but lost it for the first time. His eyes were wide open when he caught her killing his another friend Ann Maria. She was caught red-handed by him and his group of friends while drinking at Cool Breeze Beach. He had seen how brutally Ann was pushed into the sea by Pinky.

SP Ravi Dave and CID Sunil had all the evidence against her. They had proved her the culprit. JK always took defense cases but how could he defend her- Pinky for such a cruel act. He was hurt deep from inside. Their college friend, Charu who actually hated Pinky took her case. It was something fishy, yet JK could not think much. He had mentally recorded the scene of Ann, drowning into the deep blue sea. He could not save her, he was much far from her. He blamed himself, deep in his heart. An innocent life was gone in a tug of war between two ex-lovers.

His head was heavy after the verdict. He sat on the bench outside the court.

The police jeep siren was buzzing into JK’s ears. She was sitting in the police jeep, facing him. There was a smile on her face and that was a smile of mockery and her broken heart.

He was not feeling better. His body felt like tearing into pieces and it was not a revenge for him. He was just doing his duty. He walked towards the Bar council and removed his white band from his neck.

“Congratulations, Mr JK… You have always fought for justice and today you proved there is no Love between Crime and Justice.” Advocate Charu Saxena, the defence lawyer patted the back of World-renowned Advocate Jai Kishen Saigal.

“Winning a case was not new for him. He had always fought every case with no justice denied. He was the saviour of the innocent but today, he was unknowingly blindfolded like the Lady Justice but not for a good cause. “

His heart was heavy and he drove towards his home. He was still getting that blur vision in front of his eyes….

Ann Maria was 5 years old, a baby who lived in his neighborhood at Goa. JK was a law student and 19 years old very talkative guy, kiddish yet smart in academics and extra-curricular activities. He loved playing with babies and he played with Ann, every evening after completing his studies or projects. The college life was the best period of his life when he found his true love Pinky Mehta his classmate.

Life was beautiful when they stayed as a paying guest in a friend’s home.

They both were together 24 X 7. They shared the bed but never crossed the limits. They had taken the vow that they will marry each other.

He, lovingly called Jai belonged to a conservative Punjabi family and she,Pinky belonged to a modern Gujarati family. They were in love, yet fought like enemies and competed for grades. He always won the mock cases in the classroom. Marks and grades gave them complexes. In the final year, he was expecting a Gold medal and to be a topper but it was destined for Pinky. He was distracted in her love and some family tensions. His mother Rani was fixing his alliance with her friend’s daughter.

"Pinky is not worthy of a medal and she had given some bribe to the examiners." He had accused her but sooner they realised they were fighting on petty things. Pinky was ready to give him that medal, if that gave him happiness. He realised that he is not a kid to fight over some toffee. They joined a higher degree in Law. Their love bloomed. He could not think about a life without Pinky and he had decided to marry her at any cost. They even decided to elope but he was bedridden at his Punjab home and there was no communication between them. It was not the time of Whatsapp or Face book. There was no social media to communicate. She misunderstood him and decided to marry her friend.

The news of her marriage broke him into pieces. He too married the girl as per his mom’s wish.

"Life was a curse for him with a wife who never trusted him."

He was blamed for his wife’s death. He was accused of being her murderer. Being a lawyer, he proved it a suicide. He was shattered and spent 8 years of life as a widower. He was in the late ’30s when Ann entered into his life. She was a law student and she joined him as his assistant. She fell in love with him and proposed him. She was like his baby, though a grown-up female at that stage. For a moment, he was attracted to her but again he thought of his family. After he had lost his wife, he was bedridden again, he just got into suicide accident. He prayed to die, he skipped his medications and meals. He lost hope to live but God did not take his life. Someone was waiting for him and he was meant for her. His mom had started hating him but his dad was his biggest support.

He thought may be he could marry Ann but he did not intend to offend his Papaji by marrying a Christian girl. He refused Ann and she went to Australia. Life changed for him and he met the love of his life. He was happily married to Mishti and had a son. Life is all good for him but destiny made him met his ex-lover and first love. Somewhere he still loved her. He had started to forgive her but he had decided never to be friends again. He just wanted to show her that he was so happy with his life.

6 months back…

All was good and he was looking for an Assistant to help him with his work. He was almost 50 now and wanted someone who would match his requirements. Ann wanted to join him again as his assistant. He could not say no to her. Ann and he would work like professionals in the day and the evening; they would spend time together as friends. They decided to go to Goa to revisit their memories. Destiny had a new plan. JK's college reunion was announced and he wanted to relive his college days. He knew Pinky would be there for a week's stay and reunion party.

“Ann, will you do me a favour? I want you to act and pretend to be my wife in front of Pinky.” He had requested his friend. They played the game of love and acted in front of Pinky.Their fingers locked when they walked on the beaches. Pinky would feel jealous and weep.

A day before departure an evening party was planned. After boozing Pinky had lost her senses looking at Ann walking with her hands on JK's waist in the reunion party. She was representing as JK’s wife in the reunion party. She was wearing a Pink Satin dress and she had a figure of a doll. Pinky could not bear the sight, she was jealous. She looked into a mirror and realised she had her flab around on waist and buttock. She looked like an Aunty.

Pinky was dreaming and building castles in air, imagining her life with JK if they would have married. She was having drink after drink and intoxicated. Ann was enjoying her kick and in reality she knew that her drama and happiness is just for few days. In reality she is all alone in life.

Both ladies were on drinks counter and Ann stumbled. She had by mistake poured a glass of wine on Pinky’s sari.

Pinky was upset and she screamed:

“I will kill you, Ann Maria… “Pinky left the party after a scene and Ann had slapped her tight.

The very next day Ann had called Pinky to the terrace of the Villa they stayed as delegates for reunion. She just wanted to apologize. Pinky had come to meet Ann.

They chatted for a while and decided to go and walk at the beach. Pinky had a wicked plan, she decided to put Ann in trouble with a small dose of laxative dose that she had added that in a piece of Chocolate Cake. They both stood talking sweet on a cliff of the sea rock. The ladies were normal and behaved like friends. Pinky fed Ann a piece of Chocolate Cake. In the next ten minutes, Ann was giddy. She lost her balance and fell into the deep Sea.

She was drowned and dead. All was finished.

Evidence:

JK had found the traces of poisoned cake from Pinky’s handbag, after Ann’s postmortem.

He could no longer trust her innocence. He had caught her red-handed, saw her pushing Ann, brutally to the sea with other eyewitnesses.

CID Sunil and team had proved Pinky used poison while baking her black forest cake. She had searched the net for making that poison. She failed to tamper the evidence because every criminal leaves a loose end.

Pinky’s POV:

Jai please trust me… Yes, I was planning to add some laxative like we did in college to play a prank. Ann was suffering from Vertigo and I was unaware of that. She hugged me to say sorry but she lost her balance. I was just trying to save her and pulling her hands, you assumed, I was pushing her. I am not a bad woman.”

Verdict day

Her words buzzed into JK’s ears.

“Today you have supported the criminals. Someone, who hates me is trapping me and you are blind. I am sure the poison was mixed by my enemies and I have many. Today your black coat is not symbolic of justice and the white band is not towards goodness. Today your black coat symbolizes your hatred for me and the white band symbolizes your blank mindset to see the truth. The law is blind...Indeed, the law is blind.”

Author's Note: This is just a spontaneously written story fresh now. JK and Pinky are my inspiration from the movie Jaan Tere naam. I love KD Pathak so I write stories with JK and Pinky on social media and Wattpad. Actually I wanted to write a crime series with them where Pinky and JK are estranged yet united with cases, saving eachother. But anyway this story was given a different angle. No offence to law and lawyers. This story is fictional and any resemblance is just a co-incidence. I am a Ronit Roy fan. This story is original penned by Me. Thank you for reading.
