"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams".

Hard work and struggle are the keys to achieve one's dream.

One day my mother called me from Anandapur. A small village or you can say my native place. Those days, I was preparing for UPSC in Delhi. It was 12 in night when my phone rang. I was tensed and my mind got occupied with enormous thoughts."Why she is calling at this time ?" , " Is everything fine there?" Etc etc... Then I realized my phone is ringing and as soon as I picked it up, the phone disconnected. I couldn't sleep that night and decided to go to my home.

The following day I boarded the train to Anandapur. I reached home, My mother opened the door. Her face was pale. She was expressionless; allowed me to enter. Directly she went into the kitchen. She didn't speak a single word on that day. I was also observing her and didn't ask anything. My mom was a divorced woman and she was the only person in that house. I don't have any sibling.

Next morning on the breakfast table I asked her "is everything going well or not?". Tears came out of her eyes and started rolling down her cheeks. I was confused. And she said, "Niharika, I want you to marry . It's high time now. You are 24 and I want to see you settled in life." I was surprised but didn't speak. She continued, "I am having only a few days with me..." I interrupted, " what do you mean by a few days?", "I am suffering from an incurable disease and the doctor has told me that I will die soon", said my mother.

I started crying and hugged my mother. I told her that we will fight this together and we will go to the doctor, everything will be fine. I also told her that I don't want to get married and have cleared all exams of UPSC, left with an interview which will be there after 15 days. She wiped my tears and said okay just focus on your dream and smiled. We both went to the doctor, I asked the doctor to start the treatment for my mother. He admitted my mom to the hospital the same day. I was with her all the time. After 10 days, the doctor told me that my mom was recovering. I was a bit happy, I told my mom that I have to go to Delhi, as after 5 days I will be facing my UPSC interview. She smiled and blessed me . I told her that my childhood friend to be with mom for a week.

I came to Delhi and called her everyday. She told me that her health is improving. I went for my interview and everything went well. After the interview I boarded the train and rushed to the hospital.

I saw my friend standing there. Her face was blank. I asked her about mom but she didn't speak. Her silence made me more worried. I went inside the room, doctor told me that she was no more. I was cursing myself and cried a lot.

I stayed there, my mom's place and it was a month after her death. My phone rang, I picked it up. My friend congratulated me as I had cleared the IAS exam. I had totally forgotten about the results. After her call I checked my result and yes the dream had came true. I picked my mom's photograph and told her that our dream was achieved. I had tears in my eyes, because the grief of my mother's demise was much more than the happiness of me being an IAS officer.

My dream resulted in the death of my mother.
