Don't Let Me Go
Don't Let Me Go

A young man around 22 years old was stuck in a big city in India during the nationwide lock down in 2020. He had not received his salary for two months. His landlord asked him to vacate the room. He wondered why is he being ignored by his employer. He wondered why is the landlord so harsh on him even though he won't get another tenant anyways. All these questions bothered him.
He packed his two bags and left the room he was staying at as he could no longer afford the continuous taunts. He had no option but to sleep on the footpath. As he woke up the next day, a police officer asked him to go home and that he can't stay out during the lockdown. He was confused and asked the police officer if he can arrest him and keep him in jail as he had nowhere to go. The police officer was shocked to hear this.
However, he could not arrest him for anything. The police officer left without taking any action. He kept yelling at him Don't let me go. Arrest me, please. Don't let me go. But his cries fell on deaf ears. He really wondered what life would be now and how will he get money to eat. How will he reach his village with no transport available? Even if it is made available, he had no money to buy a ticket. His last hope was to stay in a lockup as he felt more secure there. He would at least get a place to sleep and two meals a day. He kept shouting "Don't let me go"
