Its true, life without addiction of something is filled with boredom and insanity. Jas had an immense desire to win over the world with his outshining personality and the courage to face challenges. He always had a winning smile which made all his friends appreciate him and look towards him during the time of troubles. He was from a middle class family so knew how it felt to live with adjustments and sacrifices. He never asked much from his parents as they were already too occupied in taking care of everyone in the family which included his grand parents, one younger brother and sister. Being the eldest one, he was always taken for granted and was expected by everyone to sacrifice for everything. But these adjustments never worried Jas because he always believed in himself and often told himself that when he will be capable enough to buy everything then he would never sacrifice his happiness.

Being a teenager he was very fond of music. He wanted to learn guitar and buy one for himself but again his family conditions stopped him. Jas did not want to give up on his desire so he decided to take a part-time job in McDonald and with his earnings, he would be able to buy on guitar for himself. He decided and got a part-time job in the nearby branch of McDonald's. It became his routine to go straight for work after college. Within a few months, he saved some money and bought one guitar for himself. The pleasure was explainable. He understood that in this world the whole game is of money only. No life can survive without money. With his hard-work and fellowship he soon became the team leader. His promotion was a green signal for him to climb up the stairs of success.

Then one day he met Simmi who joined new in his team. Unknowingly, he felt attracted to her. She was a quiet, innocent, hard-working and a cute girl. Jas often looked for the opportunity to talk to her but Simmi was always over-involved in the work. One day after the shift Jas was returning back home and was waiting for the metro. Sitting on the platform he saw Simmi seated on the bench nearby. Jas was so happy.

" Hi, did you leave early today?" asked Jas.

"Yes, I got a call from my home, as there is some emergency so I have to rush back home," said Simmi.

"Oh is it? Can I help you in anyways" said Jas.

" No thank you very much I will be able to manage" she replied.

Jas understood that Simmi was not the kind of girl who would lean over the shoulder of any guy to cry. She appeared to be a strong girl filled with self-respect and determination. Jas did not say much but told her" I understand your privacy but if at any time you want any favor please don't hesitate to ask", he smiled and went to catch the train which had arrived.

Simmi did not return to work for the next two days. Jas couldn't control himself from thinking about her. He was worried also. What kind of emergency was she talking about? Why did she not tell me? were the questions troubling him. After thinking a lot he decided to sneak into her resume in the office system and get his residential address. He wanted to go himself to find out everything was fine or not.

The next day after his shift he hurriedly ran to find Simmi who did not come the third day also. He stood outside the house mentioned in her resume. Not very big but very beautifully kept. There was a well-organized garden and the lawn was very neatly layered with floor tiles. Jas entered the gate and took the courage to ring the doorbell. Simmi opened the door. She was shocked at seeing him.

"Hi sorry I have startled you but I was worried for you," he said.

" How did you get my address?"

' I got it from the office. Please tell me that you are fine and everything is fine with you"

" Please come in. I will tell you in detail"

"It's ok I don't want to trouble you. Please tell me what emergency you talked about"

" Actually my father is quite conservative and he does not like me doing a job. His friend saw me working at McDonald's and told him. On that day he called me back home"

"Oh, I could not stop myself from coming here. I hope he will not object"

"No, he is not at home right now. But I appreciate your concern", she smiled and the first time her eyes met Jas' eyes which were filled with love and care for her.

" So when can we meet again. I believe you will not return to the job."

" Yes, I will not. Tomorrow I will go shopping in the nearby mall. If you want we can catch up"

Jas was so happy as he had not expected her to suggest him to meet somewhere. immediately he agreed and bid her farewell.

The next day they both met and it didn't take long for both of them to realize that they were made for each other. Jas talked about his dreams and ambition to be one of the richest men in the world. Simmi liked his beliefs and felt proud of herself for choosing him. Slowly days passed on and Jas changed his job. He was very hardworking and ambitious so his bosses always appreciated him. He continued to earn good and devote more time to his job than his family or Simmi.

Slowly Simmi realized that Jas was overburdening himself and getting drowned in the ocean of work day after day. His addiction to earning more was depriving him of the pleasures of life. He was not spending the evenings with her and also stopped texting or calling her. She always called him now and then but due to his schedule, he missed the calls or gave the excuse that he was busy. His parents also started missing him. Most of the family matters required his immediate attention but he was not available.

Once Jas was asked to go to Singapore for the work assignment. He was overwhelmed and couldn't hide his excitement. First, call he made to his mother.

"Mom I have to go to Singapore next week, I am very excited. This is the assignment for one year and I will be given a high salary with all the arrangements there"

"That's great news, my son. But next week your younger brother is going to receive the award by the state government for his performance in athletics. "

"I don't think I will be able to attend the ceremony mom as I can't deny my boss for the assignment."

"Yes I understand dear and I am sure your brother will also be very happy". His parents were happy seeing his progress but were worried about him.

Jas called Simmi also but she did not answer the call. Jas got angry that in that moment of happiness why Simmi was not available for him. He drove to her residence. He rang the bell and Simmi opened the door.

"Why did you not pick up my call," he said in anger.

" I was not at home and forgot to take my mobile," said Simmi with a sad face. She had not expected that after so many days Jas would come to meet her in this mood.

"Where did you go in this hurry? Anyways you are a free bird as I am so busy, you have no responsibilities towards me. I only came here to inform you that next week I am leaving for Singapore for some office assignment"

Eyes filled with tears Simmi did not react. Her heart was full of grief as she did not want to live for one year without Jas. She missed that old Jas who always valued her emotions. Held her hand with affection, she always listened to her unspoken words. At that moment she thought that if she will express her grief Jas can misinterpret her and might think that she was not happy with his growth.

She hid her grief and said" Wow that's wonderful news. I am very happy for you, please continue with your hard work my best wishes and love is always with you".

Jas hugged her and went back home. Simmi stood quietly on her door staring at the car in which Jas sat, driving away and waving at her. He did not bother to discuss their future as he was sure Simmi would wait for him forever.

Jas left for Singapore without meeting Simmi again as he was so busy in all the preparations and packing. His parents supported him and his brother and sister also stood for his happiness.

One year passed, Simmi often tried calling him but he got himself more and more busy at work. After one year when he came back, He decided that he would go to Simmi and propose her for marriage. He bought a beautiful diamond ring. He went to Simmi's house but no one was there. The door and the gate were locked. The garden was also in a horrible state. He went to his house and asked his mom about Simmi.

"She came one day very devastated and gave this letter to you. I asked her but she did not say anything and went back"

Jas could not understand what went wrong. Where was Simmi?

He unfolded the letter and read......

Dearest of all Jas,

I waited for you for so long. Days passed like hell and nights were full of darkness. Money mattered more in your life but you were most important for me. The day you came to tell me that you are going to Singapore, on that day I went in a hurry to visit the doctor as I was not well from last many days. The doctor conducted a few tests and confirmed to me that I was suffering from cancer. I did not want to ruin your plans but expected you to listen to me. I have never stopped loving you and no day passes when I don't miss you. When you will be reading this letter I will no longer be in this world but I will always remain with you to support you and take care of you.

Love you always

The addiction for money had made Jas blind that he could not see the pain on Simmi's face. Jas had everything in life but he lost what was more valuable for him.
