Character Description Of Ankit

Ankit was a lazy and simpleton with many facets to his overt personality. He was flamboyant, a little cocky with oodles of charm. He can’t be written off as simplistic despite being a simpleton. He had a rocky past especially when it came to relationships. He had a riff with his father due to ideological differences. He wasn’t a devoted boyfriend though you can call him committed. He believed in ideals but wasn’t a by-the-book person.

 Ankit transforms himself over the years and he alters his beliefs that came from years of conditioning. He became a doting parent and a possessive yet progressive father, never merging those lines. He eventually became the father that he wanted his own father to be. He tried to fit into the shoes of a father which he only wished his father would do. His father had turned a blind eye to his family to satiate his greed. His was a case of brooding overambition that had clouded his judgment and also wrapped his sense of empathy. Ankit on the other hand never wanted ambition to overpower his life so he was purposeless for a major chunk of his life. He preferred his non-conformity over single-mindedness.

 Moudeepa reformed him to a greater extend fleshing out his true character. The nature of their relationship was based on trust and respect. They respect each other mutually and their duty as parents helps that cause a lot. Ankit also proves beneficial in the life of Moudeepa. He convinces her to become a go-getter, to achieve the highs she always deserved. He stands by his convictions and his sheer respect for Moudeepa shows in the way he handles his situations during the latter part of his life. He supports Moudeepa and is also in awe of her moral uprightness. She always stands her ground and Ankit initially is bewildered by this but later almost submits to her because of this quality. She leaves a mark with her brand of feminism on Ankit by not being literal and outspoken about it.

Ankit’s sister Priya is also a good influence on him. But she fails to realize his resentment for their father because she was way too small during her father’s prime years. Ankit is inspired by many women and Priya is one of them. Priya has favored her brother on most of his decisions. She had lived long to understand the nuances of their relationship which began as a cat chasing mouse game and ended on two pillars supporting each other. Priya is a modern-day sister who shares a warm connection with Moudeepa. They are not a tale of squabbling sisters-in-law. Ankit has a special bond with Priya, she gives his life clarity of thought. They have room for open-ended debates and stirring deep conversation.

Ankit grows up under the companionship of his children. His children are a way of life for him. They construct his moral bent over the period of years. Both Rahul and Priyanka are bright kids but may not be called so conventionally. Rahul is academically brilliant and Priyanka on the flip side is academically challenged. Ankit tries to infuse in them a sense of individualism. He brings them up with the ‘what you preach you practice’ kind of mentality. Ankit also makes sure they don’t remain just tiny dots on a paper but instead form a line. It etches out a character in them. As a result, they begin to understand way beyond their years. They mature much faster than expected. They become an extension of their parents.
