Amit was back from college. "This was a daily activity for Amit, Aatu, as he lovingly called his grandma, held a special place in his life. Amit lost his mother to a fatal illness when he was 3 years old.How was your day, Amit?" grandma's soft voice reached his ears." Good, Aatu", said Amit. As usual he freshened up and plonked himself next to his grandma.

Since then Aatu took care of little Amit. She had a continuous dialogue with him. Her talk was always laced with childlike giggles and laughter.

Aatu regaled him with stories from her life. She told him stories of her village school. Amit enjoyed listening to anecdotes of grandfather's short memory. How grandpa would look for his books, how he would forget his office bag while leaving for work. Aatu made it a point to neatly arrange grandpa's things neatly on the bed so that he would not spend time in looking for them.

Aatu and grandpa shared a very close bond. The day grandpa passed away, Aatu was exceptionally quiet and. But she continued her usual interaction with Six year old Amit. The child could feel his Aatu's grief at the loss of her dear one.

As Amit grew up, Aatu became his closest confidante. His group of friends also shared camaraderie with Aatu. Her gentle, sweet being brought a smile on the face of every visitor to their home. Aatu's stories and the lovingly prepared snacks drew everyone towards her.

"You know Amit; I have never gone out on a date with grandpa". "But why Aatu?" In our times, going out would be only for a wedding or some other celebration. Amit could sense an unfulfilled wish in her expression.

"Aatu, get ready, we are going out". But where Amit? It's a surprise.

Amit forced Aatu to dress in her best sari with all accessories.

As they walked into the room, a loud cheer greeted them.

Aatu's favourite song was played. The group took turns to dance with Aatu.

The Valentine's Day celebration was special- for everyone in the room.

Aatu, looked up once," Thank you", she said as grandpa's face smiled down at her.
