Black Coffee Without Sugar

“You are a weird lass,” he said, as he passed her the cup. She went ahead and kissed him and he twitched his mouth in mock exasperation. The scent of his cologne lingered too long. She would look at him from a distance to see a change of expression. He would be too busy to lift his eyes from the newspaper. She would try taking pictures of him, he would pose as awkwardly as possible. Then out of hundreds of photos, he would have to choose the best candid shot.

They did not make sense to the world..But their demons liked each other. Her vulnerable chaos loved his glorious calm. Her misplaced warmth found a home in his icy stillness. They knew they would drift apart and they did but she knew she would choose him over everything, time and again.

Years later, she found herself in a coffee shop and as she was about to order, Gray finished her sentence “Black coffee without Sugar”. She shamelessly gawked at him, and this time he rolled his eyes.
