Alien Visit to Earth

Well, there’s reason and there’s emotion. I believe I would first react with emotions and would be frightened as hell (as probably everybody else). But I am a technical and curious guy… I believe that if THEY can come to our planet (instead of WE getting to theirs), and if they need a spaceship to do so, they are also “mortals” (or at least with some sort of limitations), but with an evident technological superiority.

BUT, if they have to use a spaceship to transport them from A to B, that means they cannot do that “by themselves”. And to develop a vehicle to carry them for this trip, they surely had to cross some steps in science (their science, of course). But, in Terran terms, they should develop the science of creating alloys to build the ship, science of studying speeds and limits, science of space navigation, science of understanding “what’s ahead”, for their ship should navigate with such and such speed and direction, that they should anticipate what’s ahead in order to not collide with other bodies, etc, etc…

To do that, they must have one thing that is completely similar to ourselves. Curiosity. Give or take a few different procedures, but I believe that all species that adventure out of their natural environment, if doing so intelligently and deliberately, are moved by Curiosity. “What exists after that great amount of water?… and after that mountain?… and after those clouds?… and outside of this Planet?”. Curiosity made Man leave the caves and become space travellers. But to cross boundaries, besides “transportation” technology, you must also develop “safety” technology. That means, besides survival kits, “portable environments” (our Spacesuits, to carry our atmosphere and environmental conditions with us), and - of course - weapons to defend themselves if other forms of life, or “beings”, try to do them harm.

So, if they show no signs of hostility, that means they are also (probably) afraid of some hostile behaviour from us, or trying to understand our customs in order to not give the impression that their first attempts of contact are interpreted as hostile by us. If they are curious enough to invest so much intelligence to develop, build and travel such great distances, they wouldn’t just arrive here and say: “Oh! Look, we found life in another Planet… Well, let’s get out…”. They would try every possible attempt to make contact.

Our history says that the higher advanced societies ALWAYS end up dominating those of lower power. If they are intelligent enough to notice we exist and even thou they do not take “conquering” measures against us, I would - once my emotional fear vanishes - rationally try to contact them.
