I heard faint voices. Perhaps it was the doctor, " Her heartbeat has stopped, breath stopped, brain is dysfunctional. Though the activities of the mind will continue for sometime before we could declare her dead.

My parents were crying. Old uncle Mehta said, "Death is certain, this is universal truth. Nothing can stop it. Whosoever has taken birth shall die one day. Accept it, don't grieve. "

A young girl in our neighbourhood has an account to share what she felt as an afterlife experience. She said, "Months before my short time death-like experience I had a weird sensation in my mouth, tongue, eyes, nose and ears as if these were not my flesh but were made of stone. Then I read Shiv Puran that describes that such signs appear few months before death. I felt my death approach. I prepared myself to defeat untimely death."

People listened to her experience in awe. she continued, "The Lord of death Yamraj and his messengers were carrying me to the Yamlok. I had read in the Garud Puran that within 24 hours of death, Yamraj brings the 'atma' back home. The 'atma' does not wish to leave the earthly attachments. The rituals which are carried out after ten days of death and the pinddaan help 'atma' in detachment. "

"What a girl ! She knows so much about such things!" Exclaimed her cousin.

"When finally the doctors declared me dead, I felt some vibrant energy release from my ears. Garud Puran says atma leaves body from a one of the nine openings in our body. ie. ;two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, mouth or reproductive parts. This energy lifted upwards. I felt very light, floating in the air and spreading in the other world. My body was left behind. I heard vailing of dear ones. This was extremely painful experience. I could do nothing. I felt in a state of unconsciousness or in deep slumber, as if too tired to move. I did not know how to react. My voice turned hoarse. I called my dear ones. Nobody could hear me. It echoed. The more I shouted, the more restless I felt. It wasn't the physical sound that humans can hear.

My 'atma' tried to enter the body again but the messangers of death did not allow. I have read such happen and 'atma' surrendering and becoming weak and losing battle. The material relations and ties of love appearing false but I did not lose my grip on life. I wasn't ready yet to leave this world.

I did not want to go to the world where there is neither sunlight nor moonlight, a world where there is only darkness. This is how I defeated death. "

We all sat surrounding her. We all know that death is inevitable. Someone has rightly said, "DEATH is just as important and necessary as BIRTH. If you've been given a life, it'll eventually be taken from you. Of course, you can have it for some time, but it's not yours to keep. It's a luxury that you can use according to your own wants and needs, but it must be returned when the TIME COMES. "

May be her time had not come!
