A Horrific Day

It was a pleasant morning, I woke up a minute after my alarm clock should have gone off. I hurriedly stepped out of my bed as I had an online class to attend sometime later. I quickly went to the bathroom to freshen up and headed towards the dining table. 

I greeted everyone with a good morning and sat down waiting for my breakfast. I spot my elder sister alone in her study table determined to complete her seemingly endless homework consisting of complex mathematical problems. Just as I had started to get impatient about the food I smelled the delicious aroma of food coming from the kitchen. Minutes later steaming hot breakfast was served to me. I started eating my preferred breakfast and admired my mother for her amazing cooking skills. 

Soon I heard the rattling sound of utensils being washed and I realized it was time to join my online class when I suddenly heard the doorbell ringing. My mother was caught up in a lot of work so politely asked us to answer the door. "It must be the milkman," She said, "quickly open the door before he leaves". I was getting late for my class and my sister was busy doing her homework so we couldn't render her help. 

Alas, our busy mother had to open the door herself. In a hurry, she forgot to turn off the gas stove. While she was picking up the milk bags we smelled the burning odour of food. We immediately rushed to the kitchen only to find that the nearby clothes had caught fire from the stove. We panicked, my sister rushed to get a bucket of water to stop fire and my mother switched off the electricity metre to prevent it from spreading further. Luckily there was not much harm caused by the fire. We apologised for not giving a hand to our mother earlier. It was indeed a horrific day.
