Chapter 28

My face turned red in anger when I saw her talking to Sean, after 5 minutes she came running and said: “I'm sorry for being late”... I shouted at her in front of everyone... Her eyes welled up with tears... I sent her back saying “I will not let her in, she came in late on purpose"... She walked away with tears.... After the session, Ahilan asked, “John why did you scold that girl?”. “I saw her wasting time and coming in late, now don't ask me anything I said and walked out of the campus. “John wait, wait..” yelled Sandeep and came running behind me..

.” Where are you going John?” he asked... “Just leave me alone Sandeep I need some time alone,” I said. “I am not gonna trouble you John, I will stay with you but will keep my mouth shut for sure,” he said... I walked into the park which was close to our college Sandeep came along, I sat down in the park without saying a word... “John… why are you upset? is it because of that girl?” Why would I be upset about scolding her? She was happily talking to Sean and later came running saying she was late, how dare she? that is why I shouted at her”, I replied.. “Oh… so that’s why you’re upset… I thought you were angry because she came late but that's not the truth… you are angry because she was talking to Sean” said Sandeep with a smirk on his face... I yelled, “why, why should I be angry for talking to him, I don't care who she is talking to...”

Sandeep said “John I’ve known you for 5 years now, the John who I know is a very jovial person, he can never be rude to anyone, he will keep others happy, I particularly have never seen him being rude to girls.. but guess what? the John I am seeing for the past week is a totally different person...” I calmly asked “Sandeep, did you not say you will keep your mouth shut?” .“I did but I am worried about my friend, what's bothering you John please open up” he said... I spoke nothing...

“Do you know Roslyn out of campus?” I shook my head no, “then why are you acting so weird with her, you are in fact hurting that girl for no reason is what I feel”... “I know Sandeep.. but what do I do I am not liking that feeling I get when I see her....” .“I don’t understand John explain it to me clearly” Sandeep said... “When I saw the very first day as she entered the college my heart was pounding fast and then the next day when I got to know her name I kept repeating it to myself, her face is often flashing in my mind, I was disappointed when I got to know that "I Love You" was just ragging and today when I saw her talking to Sean I got angry for no reason...”

With a smile, Sandeep listened to all the rambling and replied: “oh God finally John is in love...”. “What?” I asked looking at him, “yes John this is love, hmmm… so many girls are behind you and for once you are behind someone” he said and laughed... That hurt my ego, “I will never go behind a girl, you asked and I told you what’s up.. now just drop this” I said and we went back to college.

Sandeep went on to attend the class as I was not in a mood to attend, I walked into our college library... I just wanted to sit there in silence but for the sake of being in the library I went near the rake to pick a book and I saw Roslyn there, she was busy searching for a book... I kept looking at her and she went and sat down... I felt bad for shouting at her, I decided to say sorry and went sat beside her... I said "Roslyn" she turned towards me, and before I could apologize she said “I am sorry John trust me, I did not come in late on purpose”, her eyes were glistening with tears again... I said “that's ok… and I am sorry for being rude”... She said “no prob”, we shook hands and I asked, “don't you have class now?”. “I do but I was not in the mood to attend”.

“I was a little disturbed,” she said... “And that's coz of me isn't it?”I asked... “Hmmm frankly speaking yes,” she said... I said “I'm very sorry”. “no that's okay we are anyways friends now” she replied with a smile on her face... “So what are you reading,” I asked, she said about "Akbar the great" it's about how he ruled India’… “tell me about it,” I asked. She was so excited while explaining it to me. I couldn’t take my eyes off her..The light from the window bouncing off her face made her look more beautiful than ever …...

“That's really nice, do you like history so much? I questioned, “no I like emperor Akbar a lot,” she said... It was almost 1 hour in library I said “fine then, I will go attend my next class. Bye!” and walked out... As I sat down in class I constantly thought about Roslyn, the minute class got over I ran back to the library not to meet Roslyn but to check if the book what she was reading was available... Sandeep started noticing me all the time now.. As I came down with the book he said “I was surprised when you ran into the library and seeing a book in your hand, has me even more surprised. especially this book… I am shocked!” he said sarcastically, he knew I hate history, with a smile I said, “don't you know, History is my new favorite subject”.

That evening after reaching home I spent all my time reading the book, for me it was too boring, I felt drowsy while reading, yet I managed to read.

Two weeks went by… every time we met it was just hi’s and bye’s... On Wednesday morning I was late to class and my lecture did not let me in all my friends were in the class so I walked out of the campus, as I walked a little further I saw Roslyn coming my way... She had a bright smile on her face, she came running to me and said “Hi John”, I said hi and she “asked don't you have class?” I said “I do have but I was late so I got kicked out” with an awkward smile...” Oh, then let's go sit in that park” she said, I replied, “why not”... As we walked to the park, I noticed she was restless, she kept turning behind, I looked behind and saw a guy following us... “Is everything fine Roslyn?” I asked in a steady voice, she nodded yes...

I asked again “are you sure? Is that guy troubling you?” She replied “yes, he follows me everyday and this is happening since my school days, I have told him so many times to stay away but he doesn’t listen”... I turned saying “let me talk to him”, Roslyn grabbed my hand tight saying “no don't”. I said, “you go to college I will talk to him and make him understand”... She said “no John!”. He was watching the whole Roslyn holding my hand scene and came towards us and asked: “who is he?”.       

“ That's none of your business” she replied... I intervened “Boss what's your problem? did she not tell you to not disturb her?” Looking at me he asked, “you tell me who are you?” I clenched my jaw and replied to him menacingly “I am her boyfriend, and next time if I see you troubling her or following her, you will know who really I am”... Not only the boy even Roslyn was in shock... “I have been following you from years and in just a month you found a guy in college” he screamed...

I said “talk to me, not to her, now you know she is taken isn't it? if I see you behind her my hands will talk to you! DO I make myself clear?” I said... “I am not scared of you! I know what to do he!” said and walked away... I looked at Roslyn, she was upset, “ I am sorry, for saying I am your boyfriend” I said, “no that's ok my worry is he stays close to my house”, “what if..? I said if you don't mind I can come to pick you and drop you until this is sorted”, I thought she would say no but she was happy, she immediately agreed to it and I assured that I will make sure he doesn't cross her way anymore.

As we were walking back to college, I heard Sandeep calling me by my name... I turned to check and he came running towards us... Hey dude "I thought you were in class" I said; no John I woke up late he replied and then looking at Roslyn he said Hi, she replied to him and as we kept walking he asked "so Roslyn do you like history?" She replied yes I love history... Sandeep looked at me, I behaved like I near heard their conversation and as we stepped into the college Roslyn said fine John I will see you later and walked away... I gave a broad smile to Sandeep and he said so now I understood why you started liking history... Roslyn came back to us saying John will you drop me home in the evening?
