With Every Step
With Every Step
I gaze upon the Horizon
As the sun begins to set
A herd of elephants I can see
And I begin to fret
The youngest one of the lot
Seemed to lose his step
Running to keep up
Lagging behind the rest
Predators peer at the little one
Their mouths begin to water
If he lags behind far enough
It'll make room for slaughter
A panic races through me
As I can't see what happens next
But as I covered my eyes and realized
I could feel a hard pounding in my chest
There was someone watching
Someone calculating his every step
His father moved behind him
He nuzzled against his father's leg
I breathed a sigh of relief
Understanding what had just happened
You see, he was never alone
He was never forgotten
His father was always watching
Just like my very own
Making sure I was safe
That I was never alone
Side by side they walked
With every step
The little one was grateful
His father was the best
And just like my own
I felt the sense of gratefulness
To have someone protect me
It had reached my conscious
We should love our parents
As they always love us silently
They're always watching our every step
Their duty rightfully
