Who Are We?
Who Are We?
From dust we come,
To dust we return,
But in the meantime,
When we are non-dust
Is who we are.
Non-dust is a fairly open term,
A choice to be anything we discern,
But a choice so huge
Is overwhelmingly grand,
For a person who is confused about
Picking her favourite ice-cream brand
We are the books we read,
The characters we lead,
The truths we bare and the thoughts we share
The little worlds that we create
And the bonds we never hope to desecrate.
While we live this brief amount as non-dust
Remember we must
That in the end, we are going to be nothing but stardust
Like iron becomes rust.
Nothing we do will last the test of time,
But despair not, my dear child,
You are important, here and now
Because at this moment you are non-dust
The story doesn’t end there
As humans, we think, think, and we think
We think if being non-dust is really worth it
The daily task of getting up and doing things
And we think if going back to being dust will be better.
The simple answer to these questions is
To ask the dust particles around you.
Can you?
Your answer is right there.
We are non-dust for now
With all our sorrows and disappointments
The pain and evil thoughts,
The broken hearts and the abandoned dreams,
The monotony and the ceaseless boredom,
But as long as we are breathing,
We are non-dust,
A chance to be anything we discern.
