To Mother
To Mother
Let me take my leave then,
My mother.
For the sail is well nigh set
And the wind is pretty much high
And the world before me
Awaits.
Let me heap my luggage
Over the board and touch
Your feet. Let me walk
To the world, travel far
And wide, with your blessings.
My ambition is safe with you.
And my love, that too is ensconced
In your mighty heart safely.
Let me have the trust, my mom
That when I am hurt,
You will bless me from afar
And I’ll be up flying once
Again.
Let me fight the dragons —
Large foreign birds flapping,
Let me fly on them.
For you have trained me;
You have trained me well.
Let me discover the unknown
Lands for once.
Let me come out of this tiny hole
And see places, watch them with eyes,
Touch them, feel.
Let me just run, and run faster
On land and plateau and rocks.
I am sure my ambition is safe with you
And my love — I am sure your hand
Will always float over my head
And I will come in the evening,
Every evening,
And will tell you what happened
In every day’s game
And you will — your
End of the tale.
And that, is life ain’t it?
