The Warrior I Could Never Be
The Warrior I Could Never Be
You have been at war with the world
since the day you were born
While I choose my battles too cautiously
you have walked into war, unflinching,
For causes that were not your own
but perhaps should belong to each of us
You, my love, were not meant to settle
for the warmth of comfort and familiarity
You were made to brave tempests,
soar and soar with no home
To bind you to this earth
You are the light that guides us
out of the darkness of our selves
So, please never strive to be the
flower that merely adorns a life
For you shall forever be the thorn
that bleeds awareness into minds
You say these are tales of another time
but darling, tell that to my heart
It is forever imprinted with an image-
the tragic tilt of your neck, as you
Contemplate the injustices of our lives
the snarl of disdain you reserve for those
Whose heads are yet to meet their tongues
The weapons might have changed
fire given way to impenetrable rock
Yet you remain at the core, the strength
that holds up this imperfect world
So walk on, love, walk on,
a long and dreary path lies ahead,
But there are battles to be fought
and yet more wars to be conquered
