The Unsung Hero
The Unsung Hero
Ranchhod Pagi, as a name
May not ring to the common man.
Yet, the unsung hero, he became
Very important to Indian Army's plan.
A scout with unique skills that he was,
He aided the Indian Army in the wars.
The brave soldiers were called to duty,
So was Pagi, for his special skill duly.
A nomadic cattle and camel herder,
From the family of Rabaris, he was.
Working as a police guide, a supporter,
Was proffered recruitment as a scout, for a cause.
Exceptional were his tracking skills,
Even from barely visible foot prints.
Deducing the troop movements,
He gave the Army, important intelligence.
Not for nothing, was he called
'The Old War Camel'.
His role in the wars of 1965 and 1971, were quite instrumental.
Jai Hind!!
