The one that got away

I wished for you on every star and blew out every candle on my birthday cake wanting a piece of your heart that would be just mine You changed from a summers warm breeze to a icy winters snow ,falling on a cold grave 

Your eyes don’t glisten or look my way 

what we were is forgotten like a dead man’s name 

You and i walked away with a secret we both couldn’t keep 

our memories,your laugh and smile still haunt me to this day 

I kept filling water into a broken glass only for it to be drained

 you left with a choice I gave up cause there was no reason to stay 

My soul still follows yours hoping for a chance to know why you left 

I always wait and you always come home but this time I am not your home I am not the one you fight for 

just the one you’ll remember when you see a painting or the stars , you know I always saw you as the star shining brightly in a sky full of darkness 

Now we are torn apart

And the cuts hurt every time I reminisce about how you turned out to be the one that got away
