The Garden
The Garden
I never spared a glance at
The radiant shoe flowers
Red and golden,
Overhanging the rugged wall
Of my grandmother's courtyard,
That blossomed
In innocent profusion.
Or the sparrows
Arriving in swarms,
When the monsoon
Finally bid farewell.
Now spraying precious water
On the potted plants
In my balcony,
I wonder at the way
The heart is thrilled
When a tulip bud opens
Or the breeze plays
Hide and seek
With the fallen rose petals
Or when a hummingbird
Arrives from nowhere
To partake of the nectar
Of my solitude ..
