Starlit Meadows
Starlit Meadows
With tipsy steps, we wander through the lanes
Where arc lamps cast their gentle light like stains
Of gold upon the shadows. Laughter spills
From your lips, cutting through the whistling chills
Of wind that bites at us. You take my hand
And lead me through the meadows, through the land
Of cold and warmth, where breezes brush our skin
And the warmth of your breath brings me deeper in.
It doesn't have to make sense, this mad dash
Through the grass, that's dry, through lips that are ash
With bourbon's sweet, seductive taste. You fall
Into my arms, and then we both recall
How this has happened before? Your eyes are bright
As stars above us, shining in the night
Like diamonds in the sky. Your breath is so sweet,
Rests on my chest, a rhythmic, soothing beat.
No drink could ever make me feel as high
As your embrace, your voice softly sighs
Against my fingers. I gaze up at the sky,
Wondering what brought you here, from up on high,
To be with me. And as we lie here, lost
In stars and dreams, I know at any cost
I'll stay with you, forever in this place
Where heaven meets the earth, and love's sweet grace.
