Spices

Spices

The kitchen reminds me everyday

Of Granny's words of wisdom,

The philosophy of spices,

Since the day I stepped out

Of the place of my Mom.

Along with the spice box

She transferred a slice of her life.

Taught me the value of spices

In the right of amounts, that made her

A good human being and perfect housewife.

Turmeric looks perfect

Excess to be kept at bay.

Added in right amount.

Keep your makeup- shringar

Just that way.

Salt, without that

No taste in food.

With the right amount

Keeps the love intact.

Right for the mood.

Chilli powder, adds the right zing

Without a bit, taste seems pale.

Same like anger,

Should be displayed a bit

To keep one's life in control.

Saunf, cinnamon, cumin,

Cardamom and Star anise

Add flavours to the dish.

Sweetness is a necessity

For the meals to relish.

She had passed on to me

Not just spices in cooking

In balanced amounts,

But, to display the right emotions

For a better living.

I found the philosophy

To live life to the maximum,

And to be happy,

To walk smoothly on the road

And to conduct oneself, optimum.
