Red Vermilion
Red Vermilion
After her evening chores
she sits in front of the mirror
Under the full moonlit sky
Applies kajal with care
With her dirty fingers
Dabs the red vermilion
As a dedication to her husband
On the parting of her hair.
She waits for him till midnight
He returns inebriated
As her destiny.
Beats her till she bleeds
For not a fault of hers
She utters not a single word
But weeps...the sound lost in the silence of the night
Down trickles the salty tears with kajal and vermilion.
She wakes up before the sun does
Does her morning and evening chores.
Sits in front of the mirror
Dabs the red vermilion
As the dedication
She waits for her destiny
In the silence of the night.
