In the census poor counts as mere numbers

For the economist source of his postulates and prizes

For the politicos vote bank to be banked upon in time of elections

 

For the babudom schemes of corruption, unaccounted.

For the household labour, maid in India

For the factories and real estate, male in India

For the policy makers a mere bogey

For the municipality to clean the city, garbage disposers

In the city, drivers and divers in the sewerage.

 

Without the poor where will we be

For the baby who will sing the lullaby

This country needs her poor

Without the poor she will become poorer.
