The sky was the same,
But we were on opposite sides,
Sharing the same roof
And stage.
In the middle of friends,
I couldn't behave
Like other friends.
Eyes didn't seek my permission
To look at her intermittently.
Emotions started
To overwhelm me
But their collision with
The invisible wall of her partner
Produced shards of mine
Falling soundless.
Holding the truth of our past love
In my eyes,
I gasped and feeble voice of mine whispered
'How are you Shalini, your husband is so handsome?'
Extending the plate of food,
She crooned,
'He is not like you,
He is courageous and staunch'.
