I am no one's home, no one's possession
I am my own shelter and my own grave
I have a mind which obeys only me
A rhythm which I set
A cadence which mirrors my heartbeat
My thoughts and opinions are my own
As is my music
And my art
My body is my own
Nobody's home and nobody's possession
Thick thighs, skinny arms or double chins don't matter
But
My acne is not beautiful
Neither are my stretch marks
They are not battle scars, not tiger stripes
Cellulite is
not pretty
Love handles are not cute
They are human
I am human
I don't need to be glorified
Or romanticised
Or explained in detail
I don't need to be pretty to be accepted
I don't need to be beautiful to be successful
I won't match your rhythm
I make my melodies
And my mistakes
I am resilient and brave
Kind and generous
Opinionated and respectful
Genuine, strong, thoughtful, silly
I am all this and more
I am limitless
I am my own
