On Patriotism
On Patriotism
There is a unique nation,
Which, since its creation,
Was wealthy and rich,
Had a plethora of resources, which
Attracted no dearth of fame.
It had the knowledge, just the same.
And was indeed diverse,
When it came to culture and verse.
Monuments that have stood the test of time,
Enshrine glory, within the walls of stones and lime,
Scriptures of eons-long gone by,
Are still held in reverence high.
These awe-inspiring relics of our glorious past
Tell us about India's culture vast.
India is a tourist's paradise;
Before leaving it one invariably thinks twice.
It has not always been a smooth sail,
It also has been, of turmoil a tale.
There were numerous invaders
Who did nothing but plunder?
It was a period grim,
But India never gave in to their whims.
Many even sacrificed their lives
To put an end t
o the sorrow and strife.
The British came for trade,
Took away wealth and everything surveyed.
Suppressed Indian rulers' hegemony
And established their colony
The Indians began to revolt
And creating such a tremendous jolt
That the British were taken aback,
And to England, they went back.
A freedom fighter who followed, of truth, the path
Shunned violence and wrath
Mahatma Gandhi, who won the war with peace,
It reminds us that it was not done with ease.
So this Independence Day, let's bow
To our country and vow
To take it to a greater height
And like these heroes, against odds, fight.
True patriotism does not mean chauvinism,
It is not sloganeering or jingoism,
It also does not mean mocking your enemy every day,
Patriotism is serving your country in a dignified way!
Jai Hind!!
