OLD MAN

OLD MAN

An old, turning grey man,

a wondering-what-the-hell-happened

(yesterday-when-I-was-young) man

There Should Be Some Reward

for the nobility of intent? God forbid!

Is there no excuse for stupidity;

once, twice, thrice?

Once, a throw of the dice;

twice, playing the odds;

thrice, pushing the limits

of chance; such stubborn pride

(read, emotional immaturity,

inflexible self-importance);

Even more, institutionalized

Greed and moronic behavior)?

An old man, turning grey,

Wanders about what happened,

Where did they all go?

Jimi, Janice, Leonard,

Keith Moon, MLK, JFK?

Where did they go?

Leaving their dreams

Incomplete, unfinished.

Is that why I feel incomplete?

A pale shadow of what

I could have been;

Scarred by what I have seen?

Such a loss. So tragic;

To have lost the magic!
