MY QUEST By NANDITA DASGUPTA
MY QUEST By NANDITA DASGUPTA
In my journey through life
I have lived and seen the past
I have lived through present
And have looked towards the future .
The past has been and will be again,
That is what future taught me…
It is but an illusion !!
Therefore , I live in the present .
The past comes often , interposing itself
Between me and my present,
Like a chameleon changing colours
The ugly scars on its body …vanished!!
Only the pleasantness is left behind
In the last few drops of the sweet wine
The aftertaste of the nectar
lingers on the palate… !
Time has dulled the bitterness and pain
And left a balm behind
To numb the mind and soul
Battling the present .
The infiniteness of time
Is measured not in hours or minutes
But in memories like vignettes
That sometimes cajoles – at others coaxes ..
The past often bursts forth in a kaleidoscope
Of hitherto forgotten terrors..
The present offers opium to dull the pain
Never completely wiping it away ..
There is no escape from this cycle
Except to immerse yourself in the present-
Unquestioning …
And you may find peace .
