My Own
My Own
I am no one's possession, no one's home,
I am my own shelter and my own grave.
I have a mind that obeys only me.
A rhythm which I set,
A cadence that mirrors my heartbeat.
My thoughts and opinions are my own
As is my music and my art.
My body is my own
Thick thighs, skinny arms, or double chins do not matter.
My acne is beautiful,
So are my stretch marks.
They are not battle scars, nor tiger stripes.
I am human,
I don't need to be glorified or romanticized,
Nor explained in detail.
I don't need to be pretty to be successful,
I don't need to be beautiful to be accepted.
I won't match your rhythm,
I make my own melodies and my own mistakes.
I am resilient and brave,
Kind and generous,
Opinionated and respectful,
Genuine, strong, thoughtful, and silly.
I am all this and so much more.
I am limitless,
I am my own.
