For some days now,

Have I been merry,

As a great toy top;

The reason bein’ obvious,

Though, not quite so.

For, have I been

Like a human in love;

Entreating an’ enduring,

Pretty of temper,

Smilin’ very widely,

Excited an’ dreaming.

Ah! Sweet Nature,

Pour forth thou sweetness,

Lend me a cup an’

Drink a draught divine;

Wake me up then,

On some golden morn,

That I may dance with thee

And sing thou golden songs!
