Last Days
Last Days
Jesus oh Jesus I’m lost in this weary weald
Fighting for the queen’s emerald
I fought, I smashed the greedy German grins
Who had come for the homicide of the innocent bumpkins
But the horse hustled and galloped and darted in that black forest
Beasts and demons now hail their weary soldier guest
Wasp & bugs fed upon the wounds of me
My county men called me a traitor who had to flee
How like a butcher I massacred those Nazi plunderers
But my men sold my honor for penny as gamblers
Your dad was not a traitor
You are the heirs of a man in whose blood courage blossomed in a glut
Take care of my guns, dogs and of course my heart
My half hearts with you but our merry dreams thwart
Saudades of our porch and this love reminisce will never fade
Dionysus and Diana have made my wild coffin hayed
Pests have eaten this valiant warrior’s leg
And my heart by my men who call me jackleg
My life has become a lonely brivet but
My love for my country will be my only asset.
