Heartbreak
Heartbreak
The burn in heart does not know a way to extinguish.
The pain simply stays, as a growing wildfire
Conspiring to conquer the once green,
Flourishing forest, turning to ashes
Anything beautiful, anything equating life
Which seems to be in it's way.
It's as though, there's no way out of this turmoil,
A steady dull ache eating away any hint of hope
Left behind in the heart. Perhaps,
It was meant to be this way. The heartbreak first,
An axe to the blooming love within and then,
A massive downpour of grief, uncontrollable,
As though caught up in a never ending storm.
Time had been supposed to heal
At least a bit of what's been broken within,
It ended up numbing any other emotions
Other than gloom. Like a spider weaving its web
Just expanding steadily, the gloom swells within.
The once hopeful and loving heart now
Becomes nebulous with the dark haze of grief.
Any distant sunshine of hope just seems
Farther away from its grasp, as though
It has been left to attend to it's own devastation,
Steady, but sure. Perhaps, that's how heartbreak is,
A never-healing gash or maybe,
Shattering into a million pieces.
Whatever it is, it ends up drowning any hint of love within,
The soul stays, just to wither away alongside the heart.
