He Slept Forever!

He Slept Forever!

On the lines stood a soldier,

For his motherland he had patriotism and ardour,

On the edge he stood as vigil,

While proudly carrying his fatigues, arms and vigil.

One day he and his pack came under enemies' charge,

He took out his gun and was ready to stop their barge,

He saw carnage and the people taken aback,

Just because few cowards came from the back to attack.

His body was pierced by shrapnel and was buffeted by pain,

But he stood tall mustering all the strength that he can,

Soon the pains were too much to bear,

Blood oozed out of his wounds and lungs gasped for air.

And slowly he fell to the ground disoriented,

Nearing his end, "I wish I had another life to spare" was all he lamented,

He closed his eyes going into a sleep so calm and serene,

While another mother lost her son in the war internecine.
