At the bar where the smell of rum wafted through the air,

Where people felt at ease when two shots of vodka slid down their throats,

Where pretentious casual conversations filled up the awkward silence between known strangers,

I saw the human touch dying down, how people were hooked up to their phones,

I came from the generation where even strangers if sitting at the same place struck random conversations,

Now instagram posts and tweets defined a person even when they could be some creepy misogynists talking or posting about feminism,

I saw how relationships no longer were about holding hands and blushing,

But had become about casual make outs and one night stands,

I saw how no one felt any pity towards the old beggar sitting on the footpath, shivering in the chilly December breeze ,and all walked past him as if he were non-existent,

I saw how that guy over forty flirted with the twenty year old girl, old enough to be her father ,how this generation took age is just a number way too seriously,

I thought about how love had its own beauty in my generation, and it wasn’t as if I was orthodoxical, 

I was all about love being equal, participating in pride parades, yet I couldn’t get my head around casual sex and indifferent make outs, 

I missed the wordless conversation that went through between two people in love, I missed how my mother used to make pakoras and a steaming cup of chai, on a typical rainy day and our eyes used to be alight with happiness,

I missed how this generation didn’t steal happiness in those small moments but always ran after something bigger, stumbling over their dreams,

I remember seeing that girl look at that shy guy , and he being oblivious to the beats of his music playing on his headphones,

And I wished in my heart that they would talk, and it would weave into something beautiful,

With the loyalty of my generation, and the openness and acceptance of today’s ....
