BETRAYAL

The image of you lying almost naked in someone else’s arms,

Who wasn’t my mother, refused to leave my mind , 

As my mind was constantly bogged down by what should I do with this secret of yours ,

Unravelled by me, the daughter you’d claimed to love the most,

My mother’s smiling face constantly flashed in my mind, how she still blushed when someone mentioned her wedding,

How she still played with her wedding ring, when nervous, and how she still smiled looking at the saree that you’d gifted her,

All these scenes danced in front of my eyes, as the image of you kissing someone else froze me again, as it had since last night,

When I had first seen you with her, everything seemed blank and unreal, as if it were happening to someone else,

How she’d been pinned under you, was enough to give me goosebumps , as a feeling of utter disgust coursed through me,

How could you cheat on someone like my mom , who had given her all to you , without complaints,

I wondered how long had this been going on for, the façade you’d put up was just brilliant, 

Maybe the charade could have prolonged had I not returned unexpectedly early from the party, and overheard some woman’s laughter coming from your bedroom,

Knowing that my mom was out of town, but my heart refused to believe the alternate possibility,

You were someone whom I’d idolised all through these years but out of all the people you shattered my heart into shreds,

And suddenly there was nothing but the raw desire to kill you, not just figuratively but for real,

As I saw the butcher knife from the corner of my eyes, glinting and tempting me , and your smiling face, caressing her bare back, triggered me more

As I stepped forward towards your room , with the knife in my hand, as the door creaked open and you stood right in front of me,

As I swiftly stabbed you with the knife, and the last look of surprise and hurt on your face soothed my burning heart ..........
