When you raise your hand

Against her, how does it feel? 

When she raises her hand

To defend, to shield

But no matter what 

To your blows, she yields. 

Merciless man, have you no heart

Her life she gave 

For yours to be a part. 

The sun shines bright the day after

Yet through her blackened eye

All that she sees is blurred and hazy

Only darkness shrouds her mind. 

Still her daily chores she does

Her tears cut like a knife

As they roll down her striped cheeks

The memoirs of her strife. 

She has learnt to smile through it all

And to stand up after every fall

She can take her flight

Yet love has blinded her sight

Love for the ones she bore

Not for that raised hand no more.

That you bruise not just her flesh

But a heart and soul that lies beneath.

And so as a mother she curses you not

But her weeping heart is yours to bear

From it, you may run but hide nowhere

After every storm there is calm

But how many storms can she take

The whiplash of your ruthless words

The hopes she built it breaks.

When will you mend your ways

When will you let her live her rights

When will she see the light of day?

Your strength does lie within

Another storm you do not need
