Elephant In My Space
Elephant In My Space
There is an elephant
In the space that I inhabit,
It is huge, grey and hideous
It insults my hard work,
It insults my sacrifice,
It insults my existence,
It insults my self-respect,
It insults my kindness,
It insults my humanity,
It even insults my creator
I can see it clearly,
I can hear it loudly,
Why can't you,
Because you take sides,
Because you differentiate,
You are man and I am woman
You understand status and power,
I understand respect and dignity
You understand control and entitlement,
I understand right and wrong
You understand lust,
I understand love
You understand possession,
I understand freedom
I don't want to be you,
I wish you could be me,
Only then perhaps,
You could close your eyes,
Feel the injustice and the pain
You too then will see,
The elephant in the space
That you inhabit
