Dream
Dream
Dream they say, dream big, but not too big, how will your dainty shoulders
Withstand the weight of the world and your soft hands
Hold on as you are being pushed off the cliff.
I want to be an astronaut mom!
But darling, whatever will happen to your family.
They need you, besides how would you sleep at night
Not knowing whether your child has been fed.
Dream they say, just know that you can’t reach for the moon,
The atmosphere will only take you so far.
But my lungs are big enough to hold all the air
In the world and take me beyond the moon on a voyage to galaxies far away,
The atmosphere can’t hold me, but yet you try.
You try to stop me from breathing so that my lungs never know
How much air they can hold, so that my feet never once leave the ground.
You say it’s for my best, and I believe you. After all I've never known better.
But every breath I take makes me stronger.
My songs get a little longer.
My bosom expands and I wonder if they’ll expand enough to make me a balloon
That drifts away to places you’ve only dreamed off.
Dream they say, and I dreamed big.
