Demons, A Journey

Demons, A Journey

Every night, when the sky is in its darkest hue

And the world in its deepest silence

I feel demons hovering around me,

Faintly whispering into my ears,

Vaguely touching my body.

They say I made wrong choices.

They say I was my own culprit.

They say I led myself into wreckage.

They say I deserved it all.

They don't let me sleep.

They haunt me in my dreams

And even when I’m awake.

I slip from my bed and

Lean against the wall.

I wrap my arms around my shanks,

Rock back and forth,

Trying to fight them

With shrieks of pain.

But they just don’t stop.

They continue to haunt me.

Every night,

I, inevitably, give in to their pretence.

I dig my nails into my skin

Scourging myself.

“I deserved it all”, I thought.

Night after night

They kept coming.

Faintly whispering into my ears,

Vaguely touching my body.

Night after night

I kept surrendering to their pretence.

Until, one night.

I decide to unveil these evil demons.

I decide to fight them.

The harder I fought,

The more I realised,

These demons are not external

They are my psychic demons.

All this while, I was my own demon,

I caused myself all the suffering.

I no longer want to endure this agony

I want to defy these prevailing demons,

Rise above them and

See the shimmer of light that they kept me blocked from.

The night after, the demons sneak back,

Faintly whispering into my ears,

Vaguely touching my body.

This time I defy them.

“Don’t listen to them”

“Don’t listen to them”

I keep telling myself.

“It’s not your fault”

“It’s not your fault”

I keep telling myself.

Magically, the demons around me disintegrate into clinker.

They no longer hover around me,

Faintly whisper into my ears,

Or vaguely touch my body.

I broke free from my psychic demons.

I defied them all.

I fixed my own, broken wings.
