Dashed dreams

First it was to teach

History, Geography, to kids

Changed along the way

Dreamt being crowned May Queen

Alas! That was not to happen

Turned out plain Jane

Thin as a rake, face pimply

Boys nicknamed 'Nerdy'

O Yes! Saw myself in dreams

Hitting ball over the net

In Wimbledon championship

Proudly holding the Trophy

That too didn't happen

Sports was not meant to be

Grudgingly had to admit 

No point in pursuing it

Never say die attitude

Got me speed going

Books became best friends

When dreams deserted me

Through books I reach places

Beyond the land of lucid dreams

Armed with the knowledge

Promotes a feeling of well being.
