Confined Freedom
Confined Freedom

The start of a day new
From a slightly ajar door
Dawn’s first blue
Filters through.
The beauty of the moment,
Terribly transient;
The lingering calm I long,
Is the very element absent.
From the hallway
Emerges a silhouette
The darkness slowly settles
The calming blue I begin to forget.
The shadow is now
Standing nose to nose
Everything I was running from
Is the only thing, close.
The settling shivers
I try so hard (and fail) to fight
Loud shadows
Block out the only apparent light.
Scared, I wanted to flee
But this shadow is cast by a tree
Which so happens to be me;
Running away from who I am
Further away from who I want to be,
I chain myself.
I set me free.
