Child, what did you do today?

As the evening shadows fall

Causing daylight to fade away

I hear our God make His call

“Hello child, what did you do today”?

I look up with guilt and shame

And try to hide when He called my name

“Did you even kneel and pray”?

“Did you call me, did you care”?

Looking back on the day gone by

I feel the tears well up in my eyes

I was so busy I had no time

Trying my best to make more dimes

“Did I allow you to starve today,

Wasn’t your plate filled all the way”?

“Did you even stop to say,

A word of thanks in your prayer”?

“Did you have to face new storms,

Those which threatened to do you harm”?

“Was I not there to allay your fears,

And make the dangers disappear”?

I shuddered and I heaved a sigh,

With anguish I began to cry.

I’m sorry Lord, I’ve been a fool,

I’ve behaved as a worthless mule.

I regret I forgot to pray,

And focus on my God that day.

With folded hands I kneel and weep,

“O Father, help me that I may sleep.”

“Have mercy and forgive me Lord,

Cleanse and save me by Thy word”.

“I pray my life will be renewed.

Cleansed and worthy, good and new”.

“Thank you Lord for your saving grace,

Please help me now to run this race,

All my days on Thee I’ll spend,

And depend on Thee to the very end.
