Character of A Sly Life-Parody

How useless is he alive or dead,

That lives only to pay another's bill;

Whose flattery is his earning bread,

And simple faux his utmost skill.

Whose ideals not his values are,

Whose soul is still prepared for dearth;

Untied unto the world so fair,

Of genuine love or princely birth.

Who has his life from integrity freed,

Whose falsehood is his strong retreat;

Whose state can neither scholars feed,

Nor kindness make the wits obsolete.

Who envies all whom chance did raise,

And vice, who always understood;

How false sympathies are given with praise,

Neither rules of God, nor rules of good.

Who Money did late and early pray,

More of his Greed than gifts to lend;

Who entertains the harmless day,

With a well-chosen alibi to befriend.

This man is bind in servile bands,

Of forgery and lies, fear to fall;

Servant of his attitude and his lands,

And having everything, he has bugger all.
