Children

Am I a good parent?

Am I a good parent?

Sometimes, I think, what is the formula for becoming a good parent?

Being with the kids all the time or let them explore life on their own.

Letting them do what they want to do,

Or Pamper them till they are fully grown.

I too am a mother to a beautiful daughter,

We have cherished numerous moments of joy and laughter.

When she was born I left my job,

Had my plans how could I make her life happy by being with her,

I enjoyed that phase more than any other .

People will judge me, but why should I bother.

As it will give me memories which no one can rob.

With all those thoughts in my mind,

I witnessed all the beautiful moments of her growth

The day she learnt to crawl, the first time she said me "mamma".

Her little hands wanting to touch me, smiling ear to ear when I do any drama.

With every passing day, I used to think was I perfect today.

Or else I wish I would have done in a better way.

Watching instances of videos about good parenting,

I failed to be a good mother, those thoughts were intimidating.

As she grew up, she needed to be with friends.

She wanted to play with them, but the current pandemic situation stopped me to send.

She pleaded , she promised to be nice the whole day,

If I let her go down just for an hour a day.

I used to be adamant saying my "NO".

She tells me if other parents can, why can't you let me go.

Being a working woman, with no house help for household chores,

Husband in meetings always, it was difficult to fulfill her wishes.

I end up scolding her for things and she kept on wondering ..Did I ask for more?

At the end of the day, saying sorry to her was my only choice.

To which her reply is always the same,

I understand completely, mamma you the best don't ever say you are not nice.

Her "I love you mamma" makes my day.

It gives me the answer to my question,

Lets me go to sleep, with all the worries at bay.
