A Lost Cause
A Lost Cause
’Twas a lost cause,
Becoming your friend
And trying to get you to go the right path.
’Twas a lost cause,
Becoming your lover
And trying to make you stick around.
’Twas a lost cause,
Making you happy
And trying to get you to stay that way.
’Twas a lost cause,
Respecting your wisdom
And seeking answers from you.
’Cause all that you did to me
Was try to be mean,
Try to push me away,
So much I wouldn’t stay.
And yet, I still held on,
Trying to let you know that
What you didn’t choose doesn’t define you.
And yet,
You held on to the darkness that
Was devouring you to the end and you let it.
It was a lost cause.
I was a failure.
You emerged victorious in this war.
I hope you’re happy now.
