Empty Nest

It was half-past 9 in the morning. Krishna saw her phone. She realised Mimi was late for office. She rushed and got up and went to Mimi’s room. The room was empty. She almost forgot it has been a few days that Mimi has taken a transfer to a different city. Mimi was her constant companion. Mimi never left home, be it school or college or even the first few years of her job life. Mimi was her little girl. The sensitive one, the short-tempered one, the emotional one, but also the stronger one. Krishna had never seen so many moods on one person. Mimi was moody as hell. But Mimi kept her home alive.

Mimi was a good dancer, a bathroom singer, painted stuff that scared Krishna, but her scribblings were really disturbing. She kept writing about some distant memory. Mimi worried her because she was willful, feisty and fierce. She had no filter. Mimi was a difficult child but through Mimi, she lived her wishes...Mimi used to come home like a storm, but it has been a while that she is very calm. Maybe because she was leaving. Krishna sat in the room for a while and thought how to deal with the emptiness and the empty nest...She has been just Mimi’s mother for too long.

Mimi had a stack of books on her bed which she said was necessary to keep her alive...Krishna picked up a book and started flipping the pages. She found a note that Mimi left. It said: ”Don’t worry mamma, I will fly.”
