My Day Without Electricity

Electricity is the source of energy we are all dependent on. We need electricity for most things we do. It is the lifeline of every household. We need electricity for all common activities like watching television, charging mobiles to working on laptops and computers. We simply cannot manage without it.

Recently on a Sunday evening everyone at home was relaxing and I was starting to read a new story book. The moment I switched on my table lamp, I got to know that there is a power cut. As it was getting dark we decided to light candles. When the candles were lit, everyone gathered around them as it was the only place where it was bright. While everyone was sitting idly, we thought of having some fun in the dark. We first played dumb charades and then made different shadows of animals with our fingers. We also sang songs together and played antakshari. The we had a candle light dinner which was new to all of us and we enjoyed it thoroughly. After dinner we sat down to chat and everyone shared stories and cracked jokes. My parents and my grandma shared stories of their childhood and the games they played.

Time passed quickly and we soon realised it was bed time. When I went to my room, I found it was shining brightly thanks to my glow stickers, which made my efforts to put them on my room worthwhile. I enjoyed the time very much as we all got a chance to spend some quality family time. Having experienced a black out I realised that while electricity is essential, life is possible without it as well.
