Winter Is Coming

Winter Is Coming

Till the last month, when most people across the globe were saying winter is coming and waiting for the next season of Game of Thrones (American Entertainment series - Based on Fights for Throne), people in India, were enthusiastic for 17th Lok Sabha election and for electing the Prime Minister of the country (Who would hold the biggest democracy Throne).

All this reminds me of my work-related visit to the capital of India - Delhi in mid-November. It's one of the best time of the year to visit Delhi as the temperature is around 15°c and it falls further in December. It's the time when Delhiites says 'Winter is Coming'. It was my 1st visit to Delhi and I wanted to capture everything I can in my camera, as I was coming back to Mumbai the next day. As my office was not far from my hotel, I decided to take a walk on Delhi street and experience the cool breeze. As I walked down the street, I saw a few shops of branded clothes and shoes on both sides of the street. After walking for 5 more minutes those shops started disappearing and pedestrian density started reducing. Around 150 meters ahead I saw a few temporary camps setups on the footpath. Moving closer to it I realized that those setups were of labours who were doing road development work. I saw a group of 4 men talking among themselves and shaking their hands as the temperature at that time was around 10°c. One of them asked his son to bring a piece of wood and oil from camp. Both the entrances of the camp were closed and it seemed like their wives and children were sleeping inside. As I moved ahead a little, I saw a woman and a boy who might be 10 years old facing each other and a small bonfire in between. Boy was thin, wearing a white shirt that has turned little black and half brown color pant. It seemed as if he was wearing someone else's shirt as shirt's sleeves were short. He kept the uppermost shirt button open and he was barefooted. Probably, he had not done hair cut in near past as his long hair has covered his ears. But he had a big bright smile on his face with white teeth contrasting his skin tone and dark background in the night. He was facing a woman who seemed to be his mother. A lady has wrapped her hair, ears, and shoulder with white and maroon colored checks towel. Type of towel typically used by labour to put on the head before carrying any heavy load. She has dressed herself in a Punjabi dress. She was neither wearing any ring in her fingers nor wearing any bangles in her hands, unlike most Indian women except she wore a single bangle in her right hand. I could only see her side face. But I could surely say that she was smiling by seeing her son smiling.

Seeing them smile and happy. I had hundred questions in my mind. When everyone around them including me was shivering because of cold. Both of them were enjoying the weather.

How can one be happy and keep smiling in tough times?

In this modern world, wherein everyone finds happiness in having things. How one can stay happy without having necessities?

Certainly, someone has rightly said that -

"Happiest people don't have best of everything, they make the best of everything they have."

So whenever I come across any such circumstances I remind my self to 'Stay Happy and Keep Smiling' because 'Winter is Coming'.
