A nutty, fruity childhood with an insane and exuberant friend circle has always been exceptionally significant. “Wackadoodles” – the gang of some ‘sui-generis’ middle school friends, led a school life worth penning down on the pages. Things started when two best friends, incredibly garrulous, had to sit apart. Obvious in every gabby school life, the teachers had to make them away from each other, but who knew those two babbling mouths and inane minds would build up a monster-sized group of queer people?

‘Wackadoodles’ went on being bigger and stronger as the seat rotations continued and ultimately all such extroverts came together. The gang was all about half-baked minds, weird words and crazy curious thoughts; they were the souls of every class. They were so jolly and humongous that they became quite inseparable.

BUT……..

Time reigns above all. High school studies, different streams split them up. No meet-ups and no loquacious free periods; communication became a great deal as they shifted to new cities with new contact numbers. In spite of their tremendous stressful and buzzing schedule, ‘Wackadoodles’ did their utmost to link up but scarcely did they succeed.

Now, it’s the 24th of December and the city was glittering with Christmas balls and stars, giggling with Santa Clause around the beautiful Christmas tree. A lady of about…..maybe thirty five, sat on a chair in an open cafe for a cup of coffee. As she waited for her coffee and probably for some random partners to have a random confab with, the cafe gradually started being a horde of many ladies. An unusual affair in today’s world but these ladies regardless of their identities, started prattling like no one’s watching. The festive gossips, personal anecdotes flowed in an uninterrupted stream notwithstanding rather ignoring the fact that they were completely unfamiliar with each other. A sense and smell of bond for ages enveloped the atmosphere. A Christmas Eve, the chuckle of our all-time favourite Santa Clause and some extrovert, voluble dames, how could the ecstatic school days be left out of topic? The gifts, beaming faces and the lights made them nostalgic as the cafe turned to a memory lane of some ebullient school memories. Somehow or the other, as the memories went on being revived, they discovered to their utter astonishment that all of them had the same quirky incidents and the exhilaration went higher and higher.

As the stream continued, ‘Wackadoodles’ slipped out one of the tongues and then came a unanimous, anticipation filled, deafening question together from all, “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?” The reiteration of the word ‘WACKADOODLES’ was followed by an ear-piercing scream of inexpressible joy.

A euphoric discovery of the middle school gang puffed the air. The bliss of pure love sparkled. The midnight bell announcing Christmas, not only did remind of the magical moment when Christ was born but also gave birth to an incomprehensible delight as the ‘Wackadoodles’ celebrated Christmas together after almost two decades. They were all smiles and filled with laughter, their pleasure literally knew no bound. Christ connected them ‘forever’, never did they spend a day without their rib-tickling rather ‘wackadoodle’ conversations.
