TWO STEPS MISSED!

TWO STEPS MISSED!

The sky was grey, and one could practically inhale particles of dust which were flowing with the loo. KITT and GERTY, with their shields on tried to glide through the huge stones which had fallen from the broken buildings. It was very different from the labs from where they used to function before. They were thankful to their maker who had remembered to put the ‘survival mode on’ while fleeing with the rest of the human race. All the human beings had left to look for their survival at a distant planet. On and off they would encounter animals of various kinds. Their survival mode did include the ways to deal with different kinds of animals. KITTY and GERTY realised they needed to find “shelter.”

They went inside a building and looked for floors where they could easily glide through. But they realised that their bottoms weren’t smooth anymore- one more feature of ‘survival mode’. “I think we are better suited to live on the outside now” said GERTY in his rugged voice for a very small toaster shaped body. They started looking through the room with worn off couches, dead equipments, leftover stale food items, shattered glass, tattered curtains, and piles and piles of clothes and cash.

“Look at that painting! Why are 2 steps missing?” KITT said to GERTY in his high pitch voice for a very huge human shaped body. It was a painting of a ladder with a rugged tan background. At the first step, there was an infant, growing up to a teenager at the 2nd step. Then there was no one at the 3rd step. At the fourth step, one could see a middle aged guy. Then again, there was no one at the 5th step. At the sixth step, one could see an old man with a walking stick. All the figures were of white in colour.

Then GERTY said in his rugged voice “ Ughhh! These human beings! They spend their young age running after materialistic things at step 3, then realise it at the 4th step, lament about it at the 5th step! Then when they take the next step after 6th, they die! As if they’re gonna take different steps in the new planet they’ve moved to!.”
